We need volunteers to staff the office, phone bank, knock doors, write postcards, staff our booth at the County Fair, walk with us in the Canton Labor Day Parade. This is the time of year when your offer to volunteer will make a real difference.	Your donation helps us keep the lights and the office air conditioning on during extended election period hours, Your donation large or small keeps our volunteers in office supplies. Your donation will help pay for a Democratic float for the Labor Day Parade as well as a Democratic booth at the County Fair. Your donation will pay for printing slate sheets of Democratic candidates and newspaper ads for Democratic candidates. Your donation will help us win this election.

All Hands on Deck!

I will be blunt with you, and this is not paranoia or alarmist to say: If you want to live in a safe and just America, then you need to open your mouth. It is not hyperbolic to say that the current administration is doing everything in their power to enrich themselves at the potential cost of humanity itself. The diesel shortage from Trump’s illegal war in Iran is about to deadlock all supply chain movement nationally, we’re facing the strongest El Nino on record that is aready causing catastrophic climate events globally, and our administration is actively working to sabotage the Midterm Elections in desperate hope that they can get rid of future elections. If your voice did not contain so much power, they wouldn’t be spending billions of dollars to get you to shut up.Read that again: IF YOUR VOICE DID NOT CONTAIN SO MUCH POWER, THEY WOULDN’T BE SPENDING BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO GET YOU TO SHUT UP. Now I can’t say I’ve met a single person in Haywood County that takes well to being told to shut up. If you have, please let me know because that will surely be a sociological marvel. But until this individual shows up, I’m talking to the rest of you. I can’t say I’ve met you personally in this moment given this is a newsletter. But given you signed up for this newsletter I feel confident making some guesses about you. One: You care about your community. You signed up for this newsletter because you wanted to know what was happening in the lives of the people around you. Two: You understand that while you may not want to get involved in politics, politics will get involved with you whether you want it to or not. Three: You are being inundated with a sheer tsunami of crap in your actual life and in the news cycle, and it’s hard to not feel alone and paralyzed in it. Now number three is a bit more of a guess, but it’s how I feel, and if I’m feeling this way I feel confident betting it’s not just me. Do you know how to feel like you can move again? you actively have to choose to move. Unlike physical paralysis, we can shake this together. We can take each other’s hands right now, we can squeeze so that you feel the sensation. You are not alone, but you won’t know it until you show up. Come meet your neighbors, talk to them, talk to us. Find a connection you didn’t expect to find. Humans are herd animals, this is something we’ve always known. We are not meant to stand alone, to take on all of the challenges of life without help. Help us remind each other that we are all part of the same herd her in Haywood County. We all love these mountains, and we know how strong they are. How strong you are. Call Your Representatives. They may be Republican, but they must hear from you! Make sure they are hearing from Democrats! The app 5 Calls (available from your App Store) makes it easy to know your representatives and call them. It will give you background on several issues and even an optional script.

Most Important – VOTE! Let’s get out the vote in November. This is the year to bring our government back to common sense. Stay informed.
